Twisted Truths: A Monster’s Life for Me
“Our words are a fire, our words are the sea.
We want them to change, the world that we see
It’s the truth we will offer, to show where we’ve been
The pain and the wonder, our changes within.”
-Nancy Gibson (note from the director)
“Twisted Truths: A Monster's Life for Me” is a play that highlights just how difficult being a teenager can be. It also shows how important friends can be when tragedy strikes. After the cast and crew talked with the crowd, it was clear this play wouldn't be nearly as successful as it was if it wasn't for the dedication and passion everyone had. The cast was close and had a connection with each other, like a little family, and it was obvious that was an important asset to this performance.
This performance meant so much to each and everyone one of the members of the cast and crew, and they were all so involved. Jimmy Kohlmann helped write and choreograph this play, as well as performing in it. It was clear Jimmy Kohlmann was 100% dedicated about this play.
“Everything here, it came from the truth. You can't make this kind of emotion up. You can't make this kind of dedication up. You can't fake this. Things changed so many times, but what didn't change was the fact that this was raw and real. I have no regrets.”, said Jimmy Kohlmann.
What made this play so real is that it's based off of real stories and experiences from the students acting in the play.
“This play helped me. I was shy and always closed myself off just because of the life I had. But this, it forced me out of my comfort zone. I was preventing myself, from being myself and I didn't even realize it.”, said Jimmy Kohlmann.
The most moving moment, however, came after the play when the cast and crew were asked to describe the experience in one sentence. Every member of this production gave it their all and it seems that no one regrets a thing. It was a beautiful production and deserving of every good thing said about it.
“It was interesting from beginning to end.”
“Easily the hardest moment of my life.”
“It was hard because of how real it was.”
“This play is too big for this competition.”
“Know what you're doing and always give 100%. Other people are relying on you when you don't even realize.”
“The issues we speak of, they are great, and they are real.”
