The 2016 Election, the FRESHMAN Perspective

The polls overwhelmingly showed Mrs. Clinton to be better suited as a commander-in-chief over president-elect Donald Trump. The reasons for this, however, varied.

To put it mildly, the reasonings from a handful of ballots were very intense to say the least. Most were outright hateful and even vulgar, calling Clinton a liar or Trump a racist. One student wrote he picked Trump because he didn’t want a female president. Very few students actually voted for a candidate because they liked that candidate’s qualities. The comments revealed that most students chose a candidate simply because they disliked the other candidate more.

Personally I didn't like and continue to dislike both of the presidential candidates for so many reasons that I was happy to be only 15 years old and therefore unable to vote. I have really only known Barack Obama as the President of the United States. I've always assumed the election week was a positive, good time. I thought it was all about the celebration of being American and having a new leader. This was not the case this year.

It’s important to base votes on facts. Maybe we won't all agree on the winning candidate, but we can simply celebrate the fact that we have the right to vote to begin with. It will be interesting to see what Donald Trump does with the country.
