Finals Study Tips

Finals are happening for first semester, like it or not. The district changed the grading policy this year, and along with that they changed how much you’re final is worth. All class finals will be worth 15% of your semester grade. That means it is very important to be prepared for your tests, but many students are finding they do not really know how to study. There are many helpful tactics to get you through studying, and here is a few.
The first tip is organization. Make sure you have separation of folders and notebooks between classes. If all of your classes are mixed between notebooks and folders you’ll be wasting your time trying to straighten everything out. Part of organization is color coding. Take notes in a different colored pen for each class. Highlight important things and have a color key for what it is your highlighting, like for a different subject or information gets a certain highlighter color.
Another tip is setting a certain study time. It is important to have no distractions. Eliminate all distracting sounds that could be around you while you’re studying. Some people find it better to study by themselves, while others perform better in a group environment. Whatever works better for you, make sure you're doing that when you set for study time.
Before you go home to study, make sure you have all your questions answered. Having a study guide doesn't always provide all the information you need. Make sure you get the answers to any questions you don’t understand. If you have any questions about the way the test is set up, ask that too.
The final tip can also be the most important. Stay healthy! Make sure you drink lots of water before the test and study days to avoid headaches. Have small light snacks throughout the day so being hungry doesn’t mess with your concentration. Finals can be stressful, but there's many things that you can do to make it easier for you.
