Feminism

On Saturday, January 21st, 2016 over one million women stood up for their civil rights. According to Melinda Hardin, co-chairwoman of Family Planning of South Central New York, “You are not a feminist if you are trying to make abortion illegal. You are telling me that women have neither the right nor the legal standing to make their own medical decisions.”
Women all across the globe are fighting for their rights, protection, and privileges. A perfect example of why women are marching would be the feminist march that occurred in the 1900s. The march was for women’s rights and equality. Instead, the minorities were pushed to the back while the white women were in the front, completely defeating the purpose of the movement.
Today, women are pushing for protection and equality. Women are fighting for protection for the illegal citizens that are scared to tell the police about rape, harassment, or domestic violence, because they are scared of being deported back to their country.
The movement isn’t all about free tampons, or period shaming. While these things are a problem it’s not all about that. Just like not all people who claim they are feminist, stand for the right things.
