In Cannonball, North Dakota there have been protests regarding the pipeline for oil that is said to run through the Standing Rock Indian Preservation. The pipeline is said to be going through the northern tip of the preservation.
Protesters seem to be expecting the worst as they claim they are,
“Keeping out the evil”.
Towards the end of Obama’s presidency, he signed a contract saying he is against the pipeline. Now that Trump is in office, he signed an executive order to drill for oil in the sacred preservation.
This $3.7 billion dollar pipeline is going to run through a total of 4 states. It starts in North Dakota, runs through South Dakota and Iowa, then finishes in Illinois. After the oil is collected, it would go to the Gulf Coast or the East Coast.
Last fall, protesters claimed they weren’t going to let the government take their land. The tribes refuse to let anything happen despite the growing calls for them to leave. Jack Dalrymple ordered for them to clear out immediately due to the harsh winter conditions.
