After 8 years in office, Mayor John Dickert announced he will be resigning from his role as Mayor and taking on president of Great Lakes St. Lawrence Cities Initiative.
“We are a great city, on a great lake.”, says Mayor Dickert.
According to Fox 6, the Great Lakes are why he decided to resign. By protecting the Great Lakes, Mayor Dickert feels he will not only be benefitting the surrounding states and Racine, but also water in general. His last day will be this summer. Dickert will replace David Ullrich, who is stepping down after 13 years as president.
The Great Lakes St. Lawrence Cities Initiative is a coalition of 128 cities from the United States and Canada. Over 17 million people helping to protect the environment and helping restore the Great Lakes.
The Mayor's work closely with state, provincial, federal, tribal, first nation, and non-government representatives from across the basin to protect, restore, and sustain one of the largest freshwater resources in the world.
