Back in 2015, a man named Walter Scott was pulled over in broad daylight for a non-functioning brake light. The race difference between the cop, Officer Michael Slager, and Walter Scott is what led many to believe this case was racially motivated. Slager was charged with murder after a bystander caught Slager shooting Scott. The video went viral and spread controversy across the country.

The officer was 33 years old when the shooting occured in 2015. Walter Scott was 50 and had served in the U.S. Coast Guard. In a plea deal with prosecutors, Michael Slager admitted to using excessive force in the shooting of Walter Scott. Scott’s death sparked up a “Black Lives Matter” movement after the 50 year-old was added to the list of unarmed victims killed by the police.
