Tensions Run High Between the U.S. and North Korea

After a tweet by President Trump, North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong-Ho, announces that the U.S. had “declared war on North Korea”.

Trump tweeted that North Korea “won’t be around much longer” on September 24, 2017 following a series of unfriendly tweets between the U.S. and North Korea.

These tweets came as a result of rumors of a hydrogen bomb test in the Pacific Ocean set off by North Korea.

Korean Foreign Minister, Ri Yong-Ho, responded by saying that Trump’s comment was “a clear declaration of war”.

Ri believes that since the U.S. has declared war, “we will have every right to make all self-defensive counter measures, including the right to shoot down the United States strategic bombers at any time even when they are not yet inside the aerospace border of our country.”

U.S. officials do not agree with Ri, saying that the suggestion of Trump declaring war was “absurd” and believe that taking down another nation’s aircraft is “never appropriate,” especially in international waters as said by Sarah Sanders, the White House press secretary.

South Korean officials are hoping that the U.S. government will continue to work with them to keep peace.

U.S. officials do not believe that the United States are in any greater threat of war, but “all options are on the table” says Col. Robert Manning, a Pentagon spokesman. The goal of the U.S. is still to keep peace and avoid war.
