Who’s new at Case, Amanda Eckblad

By: Emily Newman

High school can be a difficult time for many students. Whether that's due to attendance issues, family problems, health complications, etc. Students depend on the teachers and staff to help them get the best level of education as possible.

Teachers do their best to give us the best opportunity to learn, but sometimes fall short of having the key materials and skills to reach out and help struggling students that need the extra assistance.

One person who can help with this is Case’s school engagement worker. Amanda Eckblad works alongside many other staff members at our schools to help teens become successful, both inside and outside of these school walls.

She works to help kids when school isn’t their number one priority and other things are taking up their time. Amanda works to coordinate transportation to and from school, as well as doctor appts, meetings, and sometimes court or other federal places.

Amanda works with students that come from detention centers, alternative schools, temporary housing etc. She is the needed structure and parental figure that many of these adolescents are lacking in their home life.

She does the best that she can to show a stable role model, teach students social skills, as well as get them on the right track to lessen the likelihood of law enforcement stepping in.

With a degree in criminal justice and social work from UW-Parkside, she is taking on the role that many others wouldn’t consider. She wants to help struggling kids turn their lives around and become the best that they can be.

“High school’s a very difficult time for some kids. I just want them to see that they have my support,” she said.
