Egypt Attack

Egyptian Mosque attack left 305 people dead and many others in shock after one of Egypt’s deadliest attacks in its modern history.

On Friday, November 24 gunmen bombed and fired upon the al-Rawdah Egyptian mosque. The al-Rawdah mosque in the town of Al-Rawdah is in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula.

Five SUVs carried the attackers who arrived at the mosque masked and heavily armed.

Of the 305 killed, 27 were children, and at least 128 were injured. Many of the victims were Sufi Muslims.

While no one has claimed the attack, some of the gunmen were reported to be carrying ISIS flags. Experts say ISIS, a fellow Muslim group, target Sufism as a “threat” to ISIS and what they believe.

Survivors, who asked not to be named in fear of being targeted by returning attacks, recall men from the army firing at the attackers while the attackers fired at people trying to escape.

“No one got out of the Mosque” says one survivor. "The military could hear the gunshots from their unit and they didn't move. Even the ambulances came under fire."

Three days of mourning were called along with a meeting of security officials by President Abdel- Fattah el-Sissi.
