YouTube Headquarters Shooting

Employees fled as gunfire rang at YouTube's headquarters in San Bruno, California, on April 3, 2018. San Bruno police identified the suspect late Tuesday as Nasim Najafi Aghdam, 39, who was found dead from what authorities believe is a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police said they are investigating the motive for the shooting, but Aghdam's videos and website are filled with criticism of YouTube. San Bruno police said that "the investigation is now looking into a website that appears to show the same woman complaining about YouTube stifling traffic and suppressing videos." The morning before the shooting, police officers contacted Aghdam when they found her sleeping in her car in a Walmart parking lot in Mountain View, 25 miles south of YouTube's headquarters. The officers did not identify her as a threat.

4 people were shot and one was killed, including the shooter. All 3 victims were immediately sent to the hospital. 2 victims were released from the hospital, but one still remains in critical condition as of April 13, 2018. The shooter used a 9mm handgun.

In 2014 a FBI study reported that six out of 160 active shooter incidents in the United States we committed by women between 2000 and 2013.

Many employees initially thought it was a fire drill, and others started running when they heard people shouting about a shooter. As police arrived, they had to wade through the flood of workers running away from the gunshots.

This horrific incident will be remembered by the family and friends of the victims of this shooting.

Police Response: This is a picture of the police responding to YouTube’s headquarters after they got word of the shooter. The first responders got there in about 2 minutes.
